Design Editor Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts in the Design Editor help you work faster and more efficiently. Instead of clicking through menus, you can use quick key combinations to edit, select, and manage your designs.

Shortcuts won’t trigger when:

  • You’re typing in a text field (editing text)
  • You’re typing in an input box (like search)
  • A dialog or modal is open and focused

Solution: Click outside the text field first, then try the shortcut again.

  • Mac: Use Cmd (⌘) key
  • Windows/Linux: Use Ctrl key
  • Everything else is the same

Start with these essentials:

  1. Cmd+Z / Ctrl+Z - Undo (you’ll use this constantly)
  2. Cmd+S / Ctrl+S - Save (save often!)
  3. Delete / Backspace - Delete elements
  4. Cmd+C / Ctrl+C and Cmd+V / Ctrl+V - Copy and paste

Then learn: 5. Cmd+A / Ctrl+A - Select all 6. Cmd+Y / Ctrl+Y - Redo 7. Cmd+0 / Ctrl+0 - Fit to screen

Quick duplication:

  1. Select element
  2. Cmd+C to copy
  3. Cmd+V to paste
  4. Move pasted element to desired position

Trial and error:

  1. Make a change
  2. Don’t like it? Cmd+Z to undo
  3. Try something else
  4. Repeat until perfect

Bulk operations:

  1. Cmd+A to select all
  2. Apply style (opacity, color, etc.)
  3. Or Delete to remove everything

Quick save:

  • Press Cmd+S frequently while working
  • Never lose your progress

Problem: Pressing a shortcut does nothing.

Solutions:

  1. Make sure you’re not typing in a text field
  2. Click on the canvas first to focus it
  3. Check that you’re using the correct key (Cmd on Mac, Ctrl on Windows)
  4. Try clicking outside any dialogs or modals

Problem: Pressed Delete and removed something important.

Solution: Press Cmd+Z (or Ctrl+Z) immediately to undo.

Problem: Cmd+A / Ctrl+A doesn’t select everything.

Solution: Make sure you’re clicking on the canvas first, not on a sidebar or dialog.

Problem: Copied something but can’t paste it.

Solutions:

  1. Make sure you selected elements before copying
  2. Click on the canvas before pasting
  3. Try copying again - sometimes the clipboard gets cleared
