How to Calculate Facebook Engagement Rate
The Facebook engagement rate measures how actively your followers interact with your posts. The standard formula is:
((Reactions + Comments + Shares) ÷ Page Followers) × 100
On Facebook specifically, the platform average sits between 0.15% and 0.5% — significantly lower than Instagram or TikTok. This is a function of Facebook's algorithm prioritizing posts from friends and Groups over Page content.
Facebook Engagement Benchmarks (2026)
| Content Type | Average ER | Good ER |
|---|---|---|
| Page Posts (text/photo) | 0.15–0.5% | 0.8%+ |
| Page Reels | 1–3% | 4%+ |
| Page Native Video | 0.5–1.5% | 2%+ |
| Group Posts | 1–3% | 4%+ |
How to Boost Facebook Engagement
- Post Reels, not links. Reels get priority distribution; outbound links get suppressed. Put the link in the first comment.
- Lean into Groups. A 5,000-member Group consistently outperforms a 50,000-Like Page on engagement and conversion.
- Ask questions, not statements. Posts that end with a question get 2× the comments of declarative posts.
- Post during off-hours. Less competition in the feed means each post gets more time at the top.
